Pensacola Beach
Pensacola Beach is the developed stretch of Santa Rosa Island — sugar-white quartz sand, the Casino Beach boardwalk, and the pier. It's the busiest beach in the area and the one most visitors mean when they say they're going to the beach.
Getting there and parking
You cross the Bob Sikes bridge, which is tolled, and then you have to park — the free lots near Casino Beach fill early on summer weekends and the paid lots go next. Arriving before mid-morning or after mid-afternoon is the difference between a five-minute walk and circling.
Check the flags first
The flag flying at the lifeguard stands is not advisory in the casual sense — double red means the water is closed and it is enforced. Rip currents here are the real hazard, far more than anything with teeth, and the flag is the fastest read on whether the Gulf is behaving.
