Perdido Key: Johnson Beach fee, capacity, and which access to use
NPS $25 vs the $3 state park vs county accesses, max-capacity closures, no pets on the sand, and the conditions we actually have.
Green — calmer
Conditions look milder — still check the flag flying at the beach before you swim.

Seafood and restaurants from the directory — never HVAC first. This is not the neighborhood listing dump; that lives at /neighborhoods/perdido-key. Our hotel inventory is mostly Pensacola Beach and the mainland, not condo rentals here.
Perdido Key is the quieter barrier island on the Florida–Alabama line — no Bob Sikes Bridge, no boardwalk scene. The decision that actually matters is which gate you use: Gulf Islands National Seashore at Johnson Beach (NPS fee, card only, summer capacity closures, no pets on the beach), Perdido Key State Park, or county accesses along Perdido Key Drive. This is a utility page, not a neighborhood directory dump.

Common questions
How much is Johnson Beach, and what is the capacity catch?
Johnson Beach is inside Gulf Islands National Seashore. NPS posts a $25 private-vehicle fee good for seven consecutive days (the same pass covers Fort Pickens and other GUIS fee areas). The gate is credit card only. From April through September the area can close when it hits max capacity — arrive early. Seasonal gate hours and closures are on the NPS Perdido Key Area page; we do not invent them.
Are pets allowed at Johnson Beach?
No pets on the beach. NPS prohibits pets on Gulf Islands beaches (gulf and bay) and in the water. Leashed pets (six feet) are allowed on park roads and the multi-use path, not on the sand. That is the official rule — not a dog beach.
Which Perdido Key accesses are free vs the NPS $25?
Johnson Beach / the Perdido Key Area of Gulf Islands National Seashore is the NPS $25 vehicle pass (card only). Perdido Key State Park is a Florida State Parks entry — our last checked figure is $3 per vehicle; confirm on the state parks page. County public accesses exist along Perdido Key Drive without a National Seashore gate; read the posted signs for restrictions. There is no Bob Sikes toll to reach Perdido Key.
Do you have a live Perdido Key beach flag or cam?
NPS posts a beach-condition flag at the Johnson Beach entrance station, and Escambia flies flags at Perdido access points. We do not have a separate Perdido flag feed or an official Perdido webcam we can embed. The Gulf wind, wave, and water numbers on this page are the same regional model we use for Pensacola Beach — unofficial. For Pensacola Beach cameras, use MyEscambia.
